The Nancy Sirett Memorial Lecture Award recognises an outstanding research career in the field of Endocrinology in NZ. This year the award was presented to Prof Mark Vickers, of the Liggins Institute at the University of Auckland (pictured receiving the award from NZSE secretary Kate Lee).
Prof Vickers’ primary interest is in the developmental origins of health and disease with a particular focus on the association between poor maternal nutrition and the development of obesity and type 2 diabetes in offspring. He also has an interest in therapies aimed at reversing the metabolic disturbances that result from a suboptimal early life environment. Prof Vickers’ Nancy Sirett Memorial Lecture, delivered at at our online minisymposium in October 2020, was titled “Developmental programming of health and disease – insights from animal models”.
